ONLINE classes

Registration will open soon for my January 2015 classes!

Christine wrote about my online classes: It’s been a lot of fun to share an on-line class with a responsive teacher and an affirming group of amateur artists. I very much appreciated Jane’s clear and concise comments and participants’ enthusiasm and encouragement.

Susanna Johnson wrote “I felt like a door swung open in my mind,” in “Watercolor Sketchbook: Designs from Life.”

Check out these free videos, to get a look at my teaching style.

And be sure and check out Danny Gregory’s online Sketchbook Skool. I teach in the ‘Beginnings‘ course!

Text and Textiles – Hand Stitched Story Squares

@ PaperWorks
March 11-13, 2015

Wednesday 9am – 4pm
Thursday 1:30 – 4:30pm
Friday 9am – Noon

$220 plus max of $30 materials fee.

This class will be meditative in many ways. We’ll be doing some journaling on fabric (I’ll give you writing prompts) then we’ll tear and cut the fabric, combine it with other small bits of fabric, paper and ephemera to create small hand-stitched ‘storysquares.’
You’ll learn some hand embroidery stitches, ways to assemble diverse materials (paper, cloth, rocks etc) and create interesting compositions. Near the end the workshop, you’ll assemble your squares into a small, very personal art quilt twelve inches square.

Email workshops@paperworks.info for additional info.

Greece!

APR 26 – MAY 4     8-NIGHTS ATHENS & AMORGOS     $2995

Sketching and Watercolor in Greece.

The Art Walk invites you to Greece & the Islands.  For 8-12 nights, visit Athens for its history; Mykonos for its white-washed town, beaches, shopping and nightlife; and come to Amorgos, an undiscovered gem, to enjoy this simple, authentic island.

Imagine visiting the world-famous Greek Islands, and with a small, friendly, fun group.  Then add Jane LaFazio’s popular Art Program of sketching and watercolor classes in this incredibly picture-perfect place.  Painting in the shadow of the Acropolis, sketching one of the hundreds of little churches that dot the islands, capturing the windy white-washed streets… there are so many beautiful opportunities to see and paint and experience on our Greek Island program. We begin with two nights at our lovely hotel in Athens, right in the heart of the city.  We’ll have an orientation walk around the Plaka area and Monastiraki to explore this historic and vibrant area.  With a two day pass included for Athen’s Hop On – Hop Off bus, we’ll see all the sights.  On the third day, we head to Piraeus for our ferry ride to the island of Amorgos.  Upon arrival, we’re met and transferred to our beautiful resort and spa hotel.  Your room awaits you, each with a private balcony overlooking the Aegean Sea.  Amorgos is an undiscovered gem of an island with peaceful little towns spilling down the mountains, and an 11th century monastery built right into the side of a cliff.  Join us for sketching and watercolor classes on the hotel’s terrace overlooking the sea.  We’ll have simple morning walks, and full touring of the island including the monastery, and an herbal distillery – one of the main exports of the island.  You’ll have free time to wander the quaint towns, walk down to the beach, and/or relax by the hotel’s pools, enjoy the spa and gym (all included), or treat yourself to the full range of spa services and treatments at our hotel spa. August 5: Sketching and Watercolor: Flowers and Plants
Want to learn to draw and paint what you see? Want to learn the skills to create an illustrated journal page of your day, your garden, your trip? Learn how by spending the day drawing flowers and plants in a relaxed supportive environment. Jane will show you how to take the time to really look and draw what you see (even if you haven’t drawn since 3rd grade). Then she’ll demonstrate the use watercolors using a straight-forward, intuitive approach and how to mix color to capture the color you want. Remember, your drawings will be as unique as your own handwriting. Jane will show you how to enhance your drawings with creative page layouts and journaling.

August 6: Create an original art quilt
If you’re new to mono-printing on gelli plates, or just love it, like I do, you’ll enjoy this class! You’ll learn many mono-printing techniques and use them on different sheer papers. By lunch time, you’ll have a stack of gorgeous colored papers! After lunch, you’ll compose and assemble a finished layered piece (or two) of original artwork, using your own beautiful papers with some additional mark making and maybe even a stitch or two. You’ll learn about composition and focal point combined with lots of pattern.

August 7: Abstract Collage with monoprinting on a gelli plate
Are you new to art quilting, or just want to learn some different approaches to add to your fiber art skills? Join Jane and play with cloth and color and hand stitching to create your own unique art quilt from your own original design fabric.
In the morning, after determining your theme, you’ll design and carve your own one-of-a-kind stamp(s) to use as a surface design element on cloth. Then you’ll add some color to the cloth using paint, stencils and glue resist.
In the afternoon, you’ll use your newly created original fabric to create a small art quilt using simple hand stitching and basic embroidery stitches.

August 8: Shopping Extravaganza
I’ll have original artwork to sell.
