September 12, 13, 14 Rowe, Massachusetts Autumn Leaves: An Adventure in Art Journaling REGISTER NOW! RoweCenter.org

Jane can teach you to draw (really!) if you haven’t drawn since third grade–and if you’re an old hand, she’ll show you techniques for taking your art journal to a new level. She is known for her gentle teaching style and for establishing a relaxed, supportive atmosphere in which creativity can flourish. Come ramble with Jane through our beautiful woods, meander around the lake and the little village with like-minded souls, and create small, relatively quick, illustrated journal pages using just pencil, pen, and watercolors. Later, in the studio, Jane will show you creative ways to print from leaves and add collage to your sketchbook pages, along with simple text and borders. You’ll come away with the skills to keep filling your art journal and a renewed appreciation of the simple act of sitting still and really looking at an object as you draw it.

Wednesday, October 21: Free Spirited Free Motion Art Quilting (extra class added!)
Description: By doing a series of very small quilts, in different sizes, in class, you’ll learn a number of fun ways to use a sewing machine to free motion stitch. We’ll use the machine like a pencil and doodle and draw on fabric while adding some paper and cheesecloth and anything else laying around that won’t hurt the machine. At the end of class, you’ll assemble what you’ve stitched, maybe adding a bit of colorant and some hand stitching, and you’ll have created a nearly finished, totally original, art quilt. Jane will show you how to free motion machine stitch like an artist.

Friday, October 24: Machine Needle-Felting: Layered & Textured
Have you always wanted to try machine needle felting, but didn’t want to make the investment in a machine yet? Do you have your own machine, but it’s still in it’s original box? This is the class for you! Jane will teach you how she creates layers of roving, sheers, ribbons, even failed knitting bits to create her rich and detailed needle felted pieces. You will have full use of a Bernina machine with needle punch attachment to make your own unique piece. Near the end of the class, you will learn simple embroidery stitches and embellishments to add even more interest, texture and color to your piece.

Sunday, October 26: Mini Text and Textiles: A Small Hand Stitched Story Quilt (3 hrs)
This class will be meditative in many ways. We’ll be doing some journaling on fabric (I’ll give you writing prompts & the pen) then we’ll tear and cut the fabric, combine it with other small bits of fabric, paper and ephemera to create a small hand stitched story quilt. You’ll learn some hand embroidery stitches, ways to assemble diverse materials (paper, cloth, rocks etc) and create an interesting composition.

APR 26 – MAY 4     8-NIGHTS ATHENS & AMORGOS     $2995

Sketching and Watercolor in Greece!

The Art Walk invites you to Greece & the Islands.  For 8-12 nights, visit Athens for its history; Mykonos for its white-washed town, beaches, shopping and nightlife; and come to Amorgos, an undiscovered gem, to enjoy this simple, authentic island.

Imagine visiting the world-famous Greek Islands, and with a small, friendly, fun group.  Then add Jane LaFazio’s popular Art Program of sketching and watercolor classes in this incredibly picture-perfect place.  Painting in the shadow of the Acropolis, sketching one of the hundreds of little churches that dot the islands, capturing the windy white-washed streets… there are so many beautiful opportunities to see and paint and experience on our Greek Island program. We begin with two nights at our lovely hotel in Athens, right in the heart of the city.  We’ll have an orientation walk around the Plaka area and Monastiraki to explore this historic and vibrant area.  With a two day pass included for Athen’s Hop On – Hop Off bus, we’ll see all the sights.  On the third day, we head to Piraeus for our ferry ride to the island of Amorgos.  Upon arrival, we’re met and transferred to our beautiful resort and spa hotel.  Your room awaits you, each with a private balcony overlooking the Aegean Sea.  Amorgos is an undiscovered gem of an island with peaceful little towns spilling down the mountains, and an 11th century monastery built right into the side of a cliff.  Join us for sketching and watercolor classes on the hotel’s terrace overlooking the sea.  We’ll have simple morning walks, and full touring of the island including the monastery, and an herbal distillery – one of the main exports of the island.  You’ll have free time to wander the quaint towns, walk down to the beach, and/or relax by the hotel’s pools, enjoy the spa and gym (all included), or treat yourself to the full range of spa services and treatments at our hotel spa.
